Hurricane Katrina and DIRECTV
DIRECTV Does Its Part During Katrina Relief
Immediately following the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina, DIRECTV launched a 24/7 "Hurricane Katrina Information" channel, an effort truly innovative in its attempt to utilize all avenues of technology to aide victims of the storm. Technicians allowed viewers to place text messages, sent via cell phone, on live TV to help reconnect people separated by the hurricane. DIRECTV also provided vital information concerning Hurricane Katrina relief and recovery efforts to evacuees in shelters across the Gulf Coast region, as well as to DIRECTV viewers nationwide.
