The Dog Ate The Direct TV Remote

Here's to another day in the life of Johnny B, Satellite TV phone rep extraordinaire. Sometimes when I deal with my new customers I give them a little checklist of things to inspect after they have their new Direct TV equipment installed to keep them from calling in a panic for help because something doesn’t work properly. A lot of people seem to have it "on the ball" and don’t need reminders to use fresh batteries, turn on both the TV and the satellite receiver and other little things, but other people aren’t that good with electronics and can really use the extra reminders.

Last week, I overheard a couple of the reps in my department talking about a trouble call that made me revise my little checklist a bit—now when I give the advice, I also tell people to keep the remote control in a safe place. It seems that one new customer got her installation, enjoyed her Direct TV for a few weeks and then somehow lost the remote. This was a real annoyance for her because she was a self-admitted “neat-freak” and couldn’t possibly have just misplaced the satellite remote. I can’t figure why anybody would tell that to a satellite TV phone rep, but she made a point of it!

After a few days of hassle (that missing remote was really driving her nuts) she called up to order a new remote. While she was on the phone, they say her dog came running into the living room with a new toy. You guessed it, the satellite TV remote control. Now, in addition to all my other reminders, I tell people to keep their remotes hidden away from those playful pups.
