Dish Network Tech - Takes on Great Danes

Milton T. here, sharing another Satellite TV phone rep story. We had an installation call that was giving us some trouble. The client’s house was in a depression; and the only way to place the satellite dish was on the client’s garage, which was set further back on a bit of a hill. This was not the problem really; it was that the owner kept dogs (Great Danes) and none of the Dish Network technicians would volunteer to go in.

It so happened that we had a young Scottish lad named Gareth working at Dish Network on a working holiday visa. He was only with Dish for a few months, and everyone made him feel real welcome and we had a lot of fun together. He piped up “I’ll go. I’m not afraid of a few dogs.” (You have to say it with the accent to get the full effect!) So of course we let him go.

About forty-five minutes later I got a call on the Dish Network internal line from Gareth, and he was all in a panic. “For Goodness sakes man” he says, “Get someone over here now, this dog won’t let me up!” I sent out a dispatch that Gareth was calling for help and two other Satellite TV techs sped over to the client’s address. The Great Dane had Gareth pinned down on the floor. The friendly dog was wagging his tail and trying his best to lick Gareth’s face! The other Satellite TV technician took a photo with his camera phone, which is framed in the staff room to this day.
