Direct TV Smart Card Replacement

It’s another Johnny B story—a day in the life of a satellite TV phone rep. I hear plenty of things from my fellow workers that help me out in my own sales routine. It’s amazing how much you can learn from the experiences of other Direct TV customers!

One thing I do now as a regular part of my satellite TV phone rep service is to remind my customers of what the fine print actually says. Some people read it so fast that they miss important little details that cause huge misunderstandings later.

A buddy of mine took a call from someone who needed a replacement smart card for their satellite TV receiver, but they were pretty upset about the whole thing. My buddy couldn’t figure out why the gentleman was so hot about replacing the card he accidentally broke, until the caller made a crack about the cost of the new card.

My buddy found out that his caller misread the fine print in his Direct TV contract and thought his new smart card was going to cost him five hundred dollars instead of the fifty-dollar replacement fee he’d actually have to pay! Let me tell you, when that guy found out the truth, he was SO relieved! It just goes to show you. A lot of people will try to read that fine print, but it’s still a good idea to remind people of these things so they don’t assume the worst.

When I talk to folks these days, by the end of the call, I remind them that their satellite TV replacement fee is a reasonable fifty bucks, they are free to cancel their service at any time by phone or in writing, and that smart cards are nontransferable. It seems to save time later on!
