Parents to Control What Their Children Watch
Satellite television companies are now making it easier for parents to control what their children watch. The parent controls now known as the V-Chip gives the adult the power and ability to place a block on programming based on specific criteria. Thanks to the telecommunications act of 1996, which targeted the growing and alarming amount of violence, nudity and foul language, the V-Chip technology was then introduced and addressed.
Using a four-digit PIN or password, the parent now has the ability to place a protection from the non-wanted programimng due to the fact that televisions are now equipped with the V-Chip.
The Federal Communications Commissions Rates Television programs as follows:
TV-MA- Mature audiences only/graphic violence, explicit sexual content and/or offensive language TV-14- Parents stronly cautioned-sexual situations, intense violence, suggestive dialogue and/or course language TV-PG- Parental guidance suggested-violence, sexual situations, course language and/or suggestive dialog TV-G- General audience- suitable for children and adults TV-Y7- Children 7 years of age and up TV-Y- All children.
Parents can now rest a bit more comfortably knowing that they can simply choose the programming that is best suitable for their age appropriated children and block the programming they do not wish for their children to view.
Beware however. Young children are very computer knowledgeable! As they get older they just may figure out how to undo what you have worked hard to do to protect them, and that is something satellite TV cannot help you with!
