Satellite TV Rep vs. the buddy system

Satellite TV Rep vs. the buddy system

Milton here with another Dish Satellite phone rep journal entry.

I like the department I work in…really. We handle the Dish Network TV sales and support calls. I like Dish support the best!

Last Saturday afternoon I was working the support desk. I got a call that was a true keeper. The call came in and I did my usual “Thank you for calling Dish TV, my name is Milton, how may I help you?” routine. I got Randy on the other line.

“Yeah, I’m getting poor reception from the dish” he says, “I think the cable is too long, the signal is really weak. Can you boost the signal for me a bit?”

Here is where I had to put him on hold. While I do know that the longer the cable is from the dish to the receiver the weaker the signal gets (after quite a stretch though), I had never been asked to ‘boost’ a signal before. So I spoke with my manager for a second and he put the call on speakerphone. I asked Randy for his account number so I could bring up his file.

He said, “Oh, it’s my neighbor’s satellite dish, I’ll have to check and call you back.” I told him I didn’t understand. He said “It’s his dish, My neighbor let me run a cable to my house so I can watch Dish Network too!” .

The account was promptly disconnected for TOS violation.
